ACTION ITEMS:

Joe Nail -- Email Earl copy of Tenn bill
ALL ---- Newsletter deadline OCT 10
Earl -- wanted to look for other venues for banquet
Andy -- Contact Scott Render about the clean up. Look for a volunteer to take this on.
Joe is trying to get a bill passed thru Ky Legislature that would impound vehicles after a person is arrested for a DUI. This is an action that follows the death of a triathlete during a race held at EP Tom Sawyer Park this past summer. There was discussion about adding this onto HB88, which is what Barry Zalph, Bicycling for Louisville, tried to get passed this past year. After more discussion, it was thought it might be better as a stand alone bill & get more notice. Joe will email Earl a copy of Tennessee’s bill. Tennessee is one of 27 states that impound vehicles. Mrs Carr, who is the widow of the triathlete, is behind this bill. The committee said we would support his efforts, but he might get better insight from organizations such as MADD, who already have done a lot of lobbying concerning drunk drivers.

EARL: Earl said he had been contacted by interested citizens to see if we would be interested in putting on a forum for the mayoral candidates. This would be an open forum, with advanced questions, and all the candidates would be invited. The purpose of this would be to evaluate the candidate’s positions on bicylists rights and on keeping the city moving forward as abicycle-friendly city. This would need to be held in Mar/April, before the primary elections. The Clifton Center was suggested as a possible venue. Earl made motion that we do this form & it was 2nd by Jim. It was suggested that we contact other like-minded organizations.

OKHT: Jim said there were 4 crashes this year and he would send the paper work to the insurance company. He has not received all the outstanding bills yet, but he is projecting that we could possibly see a $20,000 gain from the ride. Jim said Lynn did a great job of keeping costs down & getting a lot items donated. The club donated $6000 to BIAK and we will give LAB (League for American Bicyclists), $3500. This was motioned & approved by all. Jim said there would be a follow up event, but it may be an “invitation only”. It was discussed there might be a lot of hurt feelings, but it is up to Lynn & her committee to decide how they want to do it.

ADVOCACY: Andy said we have been contacted & asked to help with clean up at the Wheelmen’s Bench on 3rd street & along the Louisville Loop. Andy suggested we take Bells Lane to Camp Ground Rd as a section on the Loop. He will contact Scott Render about this. Jim suggested that Andy get 1 volunteer to take on this project, and put it on the schedule so that all club members could be involved. Years ago the LBC was part of Adopt A Highway, and Andy will see is this would be part of that.

COMMUNICATION: David sent out a note stating the deadline for the newsletter is in 10 days, or OCT 10.

TOURING: Kevin stated that the scheduler really needs to be updated. His work schedule to extremely busy right now, but he said after Oct, things will settle down & maybe be can get this taken care of.

BANQUET: Jim said that he had asked Bobbie Leslie to find a location & she found Saints, on Breckenridge Lane. He said it can accommodate up to 200 people. Earl was hesitant on this & Barbara suggested that those who have not seen it should go look at it. Earl said he was going to call the Convention Bureau on Monday & try to get a list of places that we could possibly use. Earl has asked Dianna Decker to be the Nominating Committee Head & she has agreed. She is to get 2-5 people to help her. Mark stated that he will not seek re-election to the Executive Committee, but he has a racer who will step up & run for the office. His name is Travis Kerns. Tom & Andy both stated they will seek re-election.

Respectfully submitted,
Barbara Tretter, Sectary
