GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING
LOUISVILLE BICYCLE CLUB
MAY 17, 2009

The meeting was held at the Widow’s Walk after the 2pm ride. Each cue sheet had a note “good for $3.50 towards ice cream”. This was prompted after the Ex Comm was paying upwards of $600 for probably less than 100 people.

Earl asked if there were any questions or concerns from the members.

John Paul asked about putting an LBC page on Facebook. Facebook is an interactive, internet site that offers a place for people to connect socially. He said he had put one up, but the Ex Comm said he didn’t the authority to do so, hence his request. Earl was unsure why we needed it, since our mission was to promote bicycling. JP said it would be a form of communication among the cyclists. Barbara Tretter asked why this form would be any different than the Kycyclist, since they are both forms of communication. Other members said they thought it was a good idea, and one member asked if it could be used as a place to post ride cancellations. The answer was yes. Earl’s concerns were: who would own the site, who would be the administrator, what would happen if there were inappropriate postings on the site. JP said he could get more information & bring it to the next general meeting in July. Three was mention that the BBC, LAB & racing teams have these pages.

TOURING: JUNE 13 is the Tour de Olmstead. Earl asked everyone to support this event. There will be races put on by Bolla, bike rides, booths, etc. It will be held in Iroquois Park.

ADVOCACY: Earl talked about the Bike Station that was planned for the downtown area. It was to be a place for bike commuters to use, taxi stations, and retail shops. The Lou Metro Council has postponed this for now.

There were questions about the Big 4 Bridge. There might be problems if the money designated for the Bridge projects fell thru. The Indiana side has already acquired funding for their side.

There were questions about the paving for River Road, & Earl said he really had no idea how that was progressing.

OKHT: Lynn said things were going good. She wanted everyone to know there would be a new starting place, still on Sawyer property, but farther back off Lakeland Road. She said they would be having fruit rides out of there in July/August so people will be familiar with the new venue. Sandy Davis said she needs to get volunteers to help in Bardstown. Someone asked if BIAK will be raffling a bike from Schellers, & Lynn said no, but there would be 2 bikes raffled off.

GENERAL BUSINESS: Barbara Tretter asked for people to volunteer for a “Special Events Committee”. They would be needed to such events and the picnic, banquet, and help out the Ex Comm. She said we need to find a place for the picnic, since it is getting so late in the year.

Respectfully submitted,

Barbara Tretter, Secretary
