Saturday Bethlehem Century

Saturday is the Bethlehem Century.  Of course, the Bethlehem Post Office is closed, but the New Washington Post Office will, or it is my understanding that they will, stamp the cards as being from Bethlehem upon request.  They prefer you buy your stamps there if you are going to ask them to do this, but I don't know that it is a requirement and I don't know that they will be open when we pass through.  Traditionally this ride was all about mailing Christmas cards.  I still don't know if I myself am ready to go there.  I still have last years cards stamped and sitting upstairs, but I am more than happy to stop and let you mail yours.

The ride starts at the Clark State Forest in Henryville.  Take 65 North to the Henryville Exit.  Go East (right) off the expressway on 160 and go North (left) on 31 at the stop sign.  The forestry will be on your right.

The course is available on KY Bike Rides - Cue Sheets and Maps  Please feel free to download the GPS route.  I have been riding slowly and having been sick since Sunday, don't see myself developing any great burst of speed between now and then.  Daylight hours are short, mechanicals happen.  Be prepared.  I have a light that I have "just in case."  Expect dogs, gravel, wind, whatever.  I can't promise you what shape the roads are in at the present time or who has adopted a new dog that may have a taste for human flesh.

Please be aware that Subway, the traditional lunch stop, is off course.  The one that was there when the course was written moved.  You can either go off course to the Subway, eat at Jendy's Pizza which is across the road from where Subway used to be, or you can eat at the little store that is about 60 miles in as I intend to do.  None of them are going to win any culinary awards, but all of them are edible and will help you get to the end.  The weather is supposed to be spectacular for this time of year unless they change it, but remember that a west wind will make things much more difficult.  E-mail or call if you have questions.  Puddle
