Mike Kaufman Celebration of Life

Mike was a very special and active member of the Louisville Bicycle Club. He was the Ride Captain for 69 rides this year and had ridden 167 rides totalling 4,108 miles in 2023. He was working towards earning the 100,000 mile award jersey. His riding career ended at a lifetime total of 83,846 miles.

Mike often told folks he was adopted as a baby, had no siblings, and no children. He said LBC was his family. Mike actually had another large “family” from his days in KISHAW(Kentuckiana Single Hikers & Walkers). Members of that group inspired him to join LBC. Mike loved taking new hikers and/or bikers under his wings.

You only had to tell Mike your name one time and he would speak it each time he saw you. Mike was very energetic, entertaining and funny. He loved cycling. However, as winter approached each year, he would coordinate hikes on very cold days. This past winter, he rode almost every day – he discovered heated gloves! He couldn’t tolerate cold hands during a ride or hike!

In honor and memory of Mike Kaufman, join us Sunday, October 1st for a short 19.50-mile ride starting at 4:00PM from Ten20 Butchertown with a celebration of life to follow at 6pm at Ten20 Brewing, 1020 E Washington St, Louisville, KY 40206 . Bring your favorite memory or story of Mike – we all have lots of them. (And if you have a black jersey – wear it – it was his favorite jersey color).
